Saint Dominic was born in Caleruega, Spain, in 1104. When he was seven years old, he was sent to the small village of Silos, where he learned how to read and write. He lived a very simple life, spending most of his time in prayer. Dominic was arrested at age nineteen for fornication and sentenced to life in prison
While in prison, Dominic refused all pleas for forgiveness until the day he was freed by the king who felt pity upon him. He went back to Silos and lived a life of extreme poverty. He died there in 1170 at age ninety-six.
